9:58 am: Good morning. Welcome back to day 2 of minicomics live. Sorry I’m a little later than I planned to be. I was actually ready to get to work at a few minutes after nine, but then something came up that I had to take care of, and then I had to take a quick shower (don’t ask!) and since I had to wait around for my hands to unprune, I decided to have something to eat, and now it’s about 10 and I am good to go for a while.
My first step will be to take the three pages of pencils with the old lady character, set them up side by side, and fiddle with them until I get her to look the same in every panel. This is a not uncommon problem when you invent a new character on the fly and don’t take the time to practice drawing him or her a few times in the sketchbook. There’s a trick to getting a likeness– it involves choosing a basic face shape and figuring out the key identifying marks– but you always have to set it in your mind by actually drawing it.
So that’s my immediate goal, and then it’s on to inking. I won’t have a lot to show you for a while, but I will keep you posted on my progress. Thanks for reading yesterday, and I hope you enjoy today’s posts.
