Here’s another collage of photographs of the Junkyard Moon cover in progress. I’m being brutally honest here– normally nobody outside my inner circle would ever see anything at this particular stage, and even then only if they came into the studio, probably to find out the source of the weird noises. Those are the inarticulate cries of the frustrated cartoonist. Remember that every line with two or three little hash marks on it is a bad line that will have to be corrected!
Still, there’s a lot to like here, and I got all the faces right the first time, along with both Jack’s arms and all the hands, and the dreaded boots. There is one little problem with the Moon/Bud’s eyebrow on the right as you see it, but otherwise the brushwork on that face will stand, too. All, in all, these inks are better than I have any right to expect. So I won’t complain. Much. There is still a lot of work to be done, and some very tricky decisions to make regarding the background.
