a surprising new font

I bought a new set of fonts over the weekend: HWT Slab from the Hamilton Wood Type Foundry.  Slab is based on classic Clarendon extra bold wooden types commonly used in the late 19th century, and the Slab set includes two versions, Antique and Columbian, which have slightly different serif treatments.  I love the way wooden type looks, and was overjoyed to find a really good pair of digital fonts that will allow me to experiment with wooden type stylings in my comics.  Expect to see these fonts on covers, title pages and internal decorations quite soon.  (If you like wooden type too, it’s available at an introductory discount through our friends at P22 through the end of July– there’s a link on the page above.)

I thought I’d show you a sample, so I reset the title of an essay I was writing and upped the font size for easy visibility, with surprising results!
