Here’s a very tight closeup photograph of the very tiny drawing of the Small Feather Bat sitting on the mammoth’s hump on the back cover of Junkyard Moon. The original is maybe an inch and a half square.and here is why you scan your originals rather than trying to make finished graphics from photographs:
These files were a pain in the neck to clean up and tweak, and the results are not what you’d call fit to print. I’m glad I conducted the experiment, and I learned a lot from it, but it’s certainly not a process I would care to repeat. A camera and a scanner: both useful tools, but hardly interchangeable.
For those who don’t know him, the Small Feather Bat is a friend and office mate of Professor Lykander, the werewolf librarian. I just finished scanning his secret origin, which will be one of the stories in Junkyard Moon.
