Come to the the Coelacanth Gallery to see our holiday decorations. Here’s my favorite so far, a gorgeous C.C. Beck* Captain Marvel “Christmas cover”. The snow, the trees, the giant boot… the color scheme and the lettering … they don’t make ’em like that any more. Someone out there probably has a copy of this comic and can tell us what’s in it, but I bet whatever its contents, a good copy is a pricey collectible indeed. And if yours is a reading copy with some lucky long gone kid’s name on the gift tag, well, I think that’s a good thing.
This just in: Intrepid reader Rick, who apparently has a copy of this comic because he has everything cool, points out that the stocking (described above as “a giant boot”) is actually flocked for a green and fuzzy textural experience! Now that I look at the image on a better monitor than the one in my laptop, I think you can see it pretty clearly. The Golden Age was pretty amazing in the present department.

Howdy Pam, If you’ve never held a copy in hand you may not know that the giant green stocking is flocked. Run your fingers over it and it’s a soft, fuzzy green cloth finish. Very interesting to examine in person.
That is relentlessly cool, and now that I look at the larger image, you can clearly see the flocking. I made the original post on my old laptop, which is set to low res for writing and it wasn’t so obvious.

Don’t own a copy, but I have had the pleasure of inspecting one in person, and gently rubbing my thumb over the flocking. Relentlessly cool indeed.
So… what percentage of surviving copies have been defaced by having the “To” and “From” fields filled in?
The two copies I’ve looked at in hand both had the to/from tag filled out, A small sampling, true, but I suspect a good many of them were filled in.
Maybe “defaced” is a strong word to use here? A filled out tag merely indicates the product was used as intended …
