on main street

In Kekionga there’s an old fashioned drugstore, selling old fashioned remedies and toilet requisites with gorgeous labels set in old fashioned fonts. And this drugstore has a soda fountain with a long wooden counter with a mirror in the back where a soda jerk in a white apron and a paper cap will make you sodas, phosphates, sundaes and black cows with fresh local ice cream and all the best syrups.

It’s called Main Street Drugs, even though Kekionga doesn’t have a Main Street and never has, but it’s on Indiana Avenue right near the Courthouse exactly where logic says it should be.  Not everyone necessarily sees it of course, but this isn’t the fault of Main Street Drugs. Once you’ve gone in with a regular customer, you won’t  have any further difficulty.  And I recommend that you do.  A good ice cream soda is hard to find these days.
