This one has an obvious inspiration: the wonderful ballet drawings of Edward Gorey, specifically the story called The Gilded Bat. I could not be less interested in the ballet myself, but these drawings always make me wish I was, and sometimes even that maybe I should be.
The main character here may be vampire (or even Dracula himself) or just a mild mannered werebat in buff colored breeches and a dramatic blood red cravat. The flying foxes are real creatures, props dangling from wires, or painted on the backdrop, as you will.
